Beckman Coulter develops, manufactures and markets products that simplify, automate and innovate complex biomedical testing.

Besides other products for clinical chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology or life science, Beckman Coulter offers wide portfolio of manual immunoassays in both RIA and ELISA formats. These products, currently manufactured under the Beckman Coulter brand, have their origin in two traditional brand names of Immunotech and Diagnostic System Laboratories (DSL).

History of Beckman Coulter manual immunoassays

History of Beckman Coulter manual assays development and production starts in early 80's of the last century, with foundation of two biotechnology companies – Immunotech and Diagnostic System Laboratories.

Immunotech

Immunotech was founded in Marseille, France in 1982 with aim of developing industrial applications for monoclonal antibodies.

From beginning, the company progressed successfully and marketed many innovative products, several of them patented. Its offer covered antibodies for cell analysis, as well as assay kits for the determination of hormones, tumor markers, cytokines, etc.

Incidentally, the history of the Czech part of the company started also in 1982 with establishment of RIA department within the Radioisotope Research and Application Institute in Prague. Later on, it was transformed into the independent company and went into the strategic partnership with Immunotech Marseille. Prague Immunotech itself was established in 1992.

Both sites continued with the development, manufacture and sale of immunodiagnostic kits, sharing the same know-how of unique, patented technology of the solid phase coating.

In 1995, Immunotech became part of the company Coulter and in 1997, with acquisition of Coulter company by Beckman corporation, Immunotech became a part of newly created Beckman Coulter, Inc. An extensive scientific and technological knowledge base was combined with outstanding strategic experience.

DSL

Diagnostic Systems Laboratories (DSL) was established in 1981 and soon became very active and successful in finding new promising markers and introducing them into clinical practice.
Its focus on hormone analysis was reflected wide portfolio of RIA and ELISA assays, especially in reproductive and growth areas. Thus, DSL launched many innovative assays like those for inhibin A, Inhibin B or AMH determination.

Company was acquired by Beckman Coulter in 2005, what leads to further extension of already broad manual assay portfolio.

Beckman Coulter manual immunoassays today

Via joined Immunotech and DSL product portfolio, Beckman Coulter became the biggest producer on the world’s RIA market and strengthened its position in ELISAs.

Products of those two traditional manufacturers were introduced under the common brand name Beckman Coulter at the beginning of 2010.

Beckman Coulter supplies its manual immunoassays via the marketing network of Beckman Coulter, as well as via its distributors. The kits are delivered across Europe and also to Africa, North and South America, Australia and to the Middle and Far East Asia, into more than 70 countries in total. The company produces in compliance with I.S. EN ISO 13485 quality assurance system, and supplies in compliance with I.S. EN ISO 9001 (certifying body: The National Standards Authority of Ireland). Some of manual products have an FDA clearance.

The manual immunoassay offer includes more than 120 immunoanalytical kits for diagnostic and research purposes. These primarily come from original Immunotech´s and DSL’s own production.
